Israeli Forces Conduct Operation in Gaza City: Inside the Recent IDF Counterterrorism Mission

Israeli Forces Carry Out Operation in Gaza City

In the Gaza area, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have launched what they describe as an exact counter-terrorism operation. This action takes place in Rafah city, southern Gaza, which Israeli military forces have entered according to West Jerusalem's strike announcements against Hamas militants in the region.

On Tuesday morning, the IDF confirmed that it was engaged in a precise counterterrorism operation in Rafah's eastern zone, striving to eliminate Hamas terrorists. Footage provided by the IDF depicts at least four Israeli tanks stationed on the Gazan side of the Rafah Crossing, bordering Egypt. One military personnel seeming to occupy a spot atop one such vehicle appears to have captured a portion of the footage.

The IDF claimed it had successfully gained operational control over the Gazan side of the crossing. Ground forces and air units reportedly destroyed Hamas' military structures in the nearby areas, allegedly eliminating roughly 20 militants.

Unidentified Palestinian security and Egyptian officials quoted by the Times of Israel placed Israeli tanks not further than 200 meters from the Rafah Crossing terminal, standing directly on the Egyptian boundary. According to an Egyptian official, the operation seems to have a limited scope.

The IDF has urged locals to evacuate and seek refuge in the enlarged humanitarian area of Al-Mawasi, situated along the coast and at a more considerable distance from the Rafah Crossing. This operation follows repeated IDF claims of mortars being launched from the zone at Israeli forces, causing four fatalities and several injuries among the soldiers.

The current situation follows Hamas' acceptance of an Egyptian-Qatari ceasefire proposition, even though specifics are still vague. The office of Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that this agreement was nowhere close to meeting Israel's fundamental demands. The national war cabinet reportedly voted unanimously to press on with the IDF operation within Rafah to exert military pressure on Hamas and facilitate progress in freeing hostages taken by the Palestinian militant group since October 7 hostilities started.
